Global Business is designed for students to analyze global business operations where companies operate or manage facilities in foreign countries. Students also study international business operations where the company resides within the United States and only sells products or services internationally. This course also covers international monetary systems, trade policies, politics, and laws relating to global business as well as cultural issues, logistics, and how tribal sovereignty applies to private and public (tribal) companies.

Above you will see a map of Turtle Island before colonization. Ojibwe people and other nations on our continent engaged in a vibrant and thriving trade network. In other words, Ojibwe people have been engaged in international business for thousands of years. Ojibwe managers and entrepreneurs today will face the same issues of language and/or cultural barriers, deciding who to trade with and what the potential benefits might be, and determining how to engage in trade that improves the lives of community and tribal members.

You may be interested to know "that Dentalium shells were used by Inuit, First Nations, and Native Americans as an international trade item. This usage is found along the western coast of Canada and along the Pacific Ocean coast of the northwest United States extending southward to Southern California. Traditionally, the shells of the precious dentalium (a species which occurs from Alaska to Baja California) were harvested from deep waters around the Pacific Northwest coast of North America, especially off the coast of Vancouver Island." (Wikipedia, 2021) This means that a resource used for trading, which only comes from the West coast, was used all around North and South America as a form of "currency". This is a good example of how vast and sophisticated international trade was for Ojibwe people and this course helps us renew these skills for starting and growing global business in todays environment.
